The New York State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) works with communities to help preserve important community resources.  In 2011 the Town of Vestal received a grant for a town-wide Reconnaissance Level Historic Resources Survey.  The survey identified building and sites throughout the community that meet the criteria for designation as a local, State, or National landmark. It is this survey that guides the Vestal Historic Preservation Commission.

Certified Local Governments

Communities such as Vestal, who fulfill specific requirements, become eligible to become a Certified Local Government (CLG).
CLGs have passed a local law or Historic Preservation Ordinance that establilshes a Historic Preservation Commission and defines the laws that commission is responsible for upholding.

If you have questions about Vestal's Historic Preservation Ordinance or about preservation in general, please contact the Commission through Email Preservation Information or attend a Commission meeting.
