Planning Board – The Planning Board acts on requests related to building and development in the Town.  There are five (5) members and two (2) alternates. The length of the term is five (5) years.  Terms are staggered and begin on July 8.  Meetings are held monthly. Required training is provided. Requires Oath of Office

The Planning Board reviews site plans for building construction, additions, rehabilitations, land partitions, change of building use, change of building tenants, and sub-divisions to ensure that the plans comply with the code and law. This Board works closely with the Town Engineer on all projects.

Town of Vestal Planning Board has been designated by the Town Board per section 274-a of Town Law to review and approve, approve with modifications, or disapprove site plans prepared to specifications set forth in the Vestal zoning ordinance. Site plans show the arrangement, layout and design of a proposed use of the land, of which plan elements are included in Chapter 24 of the Town of Vestal Code.

If the site plans are approved, a building permit can be issued to a developer. If the zoning ordinance can not be complied with, the applicant is directed to the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Working in conjunction with the Town Board and/or Zoning Board of Appeals, some projects may have Public Hearings scheduled by the appropriate body, giving neighbors and Town residents an opportunity to comment on the proposal.

Meetings are typically held on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00 PM in the Town Hall Board Room.
